Ysgol Friars will re-open to pupils on Wednesday the 3rd of September.

Welcome to Ysgol Friars

A warm welcome to Ysgol Friars. It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to Ysgol Friars. Ysgol Friars is based in the heart of the City of Bangor next to the university and hospital. Ysgol Friars is a secondary school located in Bangor, Gwynedd, Wales. It is a state-funded, co-educational, bilingual school with a strong academic reputation. The school has a history rooted in the former Friars School, which was originally a private school before being incorporated into the state system

Ysgol Friars is a successful, multi cultural 11-18 comprehensive school located in Gwynedd, North Wales. We are proud of the history of our school and the values has promoted for many years. Our vision for the school is “To foster enjoyment of learning to the highest standards through the creation of a civilized community where pupils share a common set of values applicable to their local, national, and global identity.

We work hard to make our vision a reality by encouraging staff and pupils to work in partnership, to aim high and to look after each other. We believe in hard work and high standards. We expect pupils to display good behaviour and to show respect towards themselves, their peers and staff.

The highest quality teaching and learning is at the core of our school. We work hard to ensure that all our pupils are successful and can transition with the skills that they need to move forward with their careers. We are proud of our academic success both at GCSE and A level.

Whilst we teach mostly through the medium of English, we are proud to celebrate the Welsh language and Welsh culture. We have Welsh medium based classes in tutors and Year 7 teaching and learning

Every child is encouraged to fulfil their potential. We will support your child to do this and we aim to do so by working in partnership with you as parents and carers. We strive to support every pupil and have a very effective additional learning needs department that ensure that pupils with or without individual development plans can access the support that they need to succeed

Alongside our commitment to achieving standards, we also place great emphasis on the wider aspects of school life. We believe that clubs, teams and opportunities or visits outside the classroom and school enhance young people.

We want our pupils to enjoy and be proud of the school. We want to see our learning reflect our cynefin, our culture and our communities.

Thank you for visiting our website and please get in touch co that we can share more about our wonderful school.
